K.Mack Productions Launches Crowdfunding Campaign for Boxer The Feature Film

New York, NY: On Tuesday, July 13th, Writer, Director of the critically acclaimed limited series Charlie, Katie Mack, will launch a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to bring awareness and facilitate the production and filming of Boxer, a feature film. Mack, starring as the title character, is a professional boxer, who, after the death of her fiance, leaves her world to start over and finds herself training under a new identity and meets a man who tries to break her stoic facade and help her find love again.

The campaign seeks to raise $111K for the development and filming costs and seeks to begin filming by fall 2021. Created, written, and directed by a Black woman, Boxer aspires to tell stories from the Black experience that are largely ignored by Hollywood. In a recent study conducted by Mckinsey & Company, “few Black-led stories get told, and when they are, these projects have been consistently underfunded and undervalued, despite often earning higher relative returns than other properties.”

Mack believes that crowdfunding is an essential tool that allows BIPOC filmmakers to tell their stories and provides agency to those who may never get through the doors of Hollywood. “We can now greenlight our own projects as well as connect with our audience,” says Mack. “Black stories are not monolithic and audiences deserve to watch and see the beautiful diversity that is afforded through crowdfunding.”
